Who needs a Schengen visa?
Visa requirements are determined by your passport nationality, not your country of residence. Search the lists below to find your nationality.
ETIAS launch pending
ETIAS โ the โฌ7 travel authorisation for visa-exempt nationals (UK, US, Canada, etc.) โ has been postponed several times. The European Commission expects ETIAS to start around six months after EES is fully operational. Until ETIAS launches, visa-exempt travellers do not need to apply for one.
Your visa requirement is based on the passport you travel on. Living in the UK on an Indian passport still means you need a Schengen visa; an American visiting from Mumbai does not.
- Indian citizen, UK resident: Visa required
- Chinese citizen, US Green Card: Visa required
- American living in India: No visa needed
- UK citizen (post-Brexit): No visa needed; ETIAS once it launches
